SB2281 is making its way through the North Dakota Legislature. This proposed legislation would impose a new 32% tax on cigars purchased by distributors, drastically increasing the tax to 60% of wholesale for consumers and placing an undue burden on local small businesses. We need your help to stop this harmful measure!
North Dakota Senate Bill 2281 has past the Senate and is now headed to the House. The bill is proposing to levy a seperate and additional tax on premium cigars at 32% of the wholesale purchase price.
This tax hike would have significant negative consequences for North Dakota's small businesses and premium cigar consumers. Higher taxes on premium cigars would drive customers to lower-cost out-of-state or online retailers, reducing in-state purchases and ultimately decreasing tax revenue for North Dakota. This decline in local sales would place added pressure on small businesses, making it harder for them to stay afloat and potentially leading to job losses.
Take action now—urge your representatives to oppose Senate Bill 2281 and protect North Dakota's small businesses and economy.
